Hosta Patriot

'Patriot' Hosta is a long-time favorite, noted for the dramatic color contrast it lends to the landscape. Deep green leaves are flanked by broad, white margins throughout the season and lavender flowers shoot up from tall scapes in late summer.

Incredibly easy to care for, this is a tough, forgiving plant that really brightens the shade garden. (Hosta)

  • Ovate leaves have dark green centers and outstanding, crisp white, streaked margins (margins are creamy-yellow in spring)
  • Leaves are of better than average substance, are slightly wavy, and display good sun tolerance
  • Lavender flowers appear on 30" scapes in midsummer
  • Attracts both hummingbirds and songbirds
  • A sport of 'Francee'

        Plant care

Hosta are generally carefree. Remove the spent flower stalks if seeding is not wanted. (Not all varieties will seed.) Be aware that seedlings are rarely true to the parent plant. Unwanted or damaged leaves can be clipped off at the base at any time.

The entire plant will die back for the winter and spent foliage can usually be raked or clipped off easily in late fall or early spring. Can be divided in spring or fall every 3-5 years if desired.

        Plant spacing

        Spacing: Plant 24" apart
